SICK IME08-02BPSZT0K Sensor

SICK IME08-02BPSZT0K inductive proximity sensor. Miniature M8 barrel with 2 mm range for metal detection in compact machinery.

Overview

The SICK IME08-02BPSZT0K is an inductive proximity sensor of the IME family in the miniature M8 threaded barrel format, with a sensing range of 2 mm. It detects metallic objects without contact and is used wherever space is extremely limited, such as compact fixtures, slides and small handling systems.

How It Works

An oscillator drives a coil in the sensor face, producing an alternating electromagnetic field. When a metal object enters this field, eddy currents draw energy from the oscillator and its amplitude drops. The electronics evaluate this damping and switch the output. Non-metallic materials do not damp the field and are not detected.

Key Features

  • Miniature M8 barrel for tightest mounting spaces
  • Sensing range 2 mm for precise metal detection
  • Contactless operation with no moving parts
  • Insensitivity to dust and ambient light
  • Reliable switching on ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Robust threaded housing with lock nuts

Typical Applications

  • Position detection on miniature slides and actuators
  • End-position monitoring in compact assemblies
  • Metal part detection in small feeding systems
  • Verification of clamping positions in fixtures
  • Sensing in medical device and electronics manufacturing

Installation and Setup Notes

Screw the barrel into the tapped bore and lock it with the nut at moderate torque. Respect the family's embeddable mounting rules so surrounding metal does not reduce the range. Set the target within the rated distance; the effective range depends on the metal type, with mild steel giving the nominal value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it detect aluminum or stainless steel?
Yes, non-ferrous metals are detected, though their effective range is smaller than for mild steel.
Can it detect plastic?
No, inductive sensors respond only to metals; use a capacitive sensor for plastics.
What does the 02 in the order code mean?
It identifies the 2 mm sensing range of this IME08 variant.
