SICK LUTM-UP81162P Sensor
SICK LUTM-UP81162P luminescence sensor with IO-Link. UV-based detection of invisible marks, adhesives and coatings at 12.5 mm.
Overview
The SICK LUTM-UP81162P is a luminescence sensor of the LUTM family in a miniature housing with PNP output and IO-Link. It detects luminescent marks, adhesives and coatings that are invisible or barely visible to the human eye, providing reliable verification on packaging, printing and assembly lines.
How It Works
The sensor emits UV light that causes luminescent materials to glow. The receiver detects this glow while suppressing the excitation light and ambient illumination. When the luminous response exceeds the taught threshold, the output switches. Even faint luminescent marks produce clear switching signals.
Key Features
- Detection of luminescent marks via UV excitation
- Miniature housing with PNP switching output
- IO-Link for configuration and diagnostics
- Sensing distance 12.5 mm per family specification
- Reliable on invisible marks, adhesives and coatings

Installation and Setup Notes
Mount the sensor at the 12.5 mm rated distance and teach the threshold with the luminescent mark present. Ensure the mark application delivers consistent luminous intensity, and configure the sensor via IO-Link where remote parameterization is desired. Avoid strong UV sources in the direct environment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do the marks need special ink?
Yes, luminescent inks or coatings are used that glow under UV excitation; they can be invisible in normal light.
Can it verify glue beads?
Yes, luminescent-adhesive verification is a typical application for this sensor family.
What does IO-Link add?
Remote parameterization, diagnostics and easy switching between recipes via the IO-Link master.
